Swimming pool set to remain closed over weekend as investigation continues viewing gallery 'incident'

The North’s first Olympic swimming pool is set to remain closed over the weekend.
It follows an incident at the viewing gallery at Greenvale Leisure Centre in Magherafelt in which a glass panel break and fall by the poolside.
The pool was immediately closed with Mid Ulster Council confirming it had launched an investigation into the incident.
This afternoon, a Council spokesperson said pools at the centre remained closed while work was “ongoing” to assess the cause of the incident.
The spokesperson added the pools were unlikely to reopen this weekend.
The spokesperson added: “We will provide updated information as it becomes available.
“We would ask for your understanding while we ensure the pools can be re-opened safely.”
The 50 metre pool (pictured) opened in 2012.
At the time, it was the first pool of its size to be opened in the North.
A similar sized pool has since opened in Bangor in Co Down.
