'This is recklessness that is threatening lives' - Concern following theft of another life ring in Strabane

There has been widespread concern following the theft of another life ring from the riverside in Strabane.

Those accused of stealing the life ring have been accused of reckless behaviour that could cost lives.

The local Mourne Search and Rescue team recently noticed a life ring had been removed from its location behind Supervalu in the town.

West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan said that he would describe the act as "complete recklessness that is threatening lives".

"There are huge issues that exist in the Strabane area in relation to these life rings. The council aren't to the fore when it comes to replacing these and often it's too late when we notice that they're gone," he said, speaking to Highland Radio.

"The PSNI need to send out a very strong message. This is not just about vandalism, it's about posing a threat to someone's life."
