Three Derry women charged with disorderly behaviour over altercation

District Judge Suzanne Rice rules CCTV footage shows defendants involved in an "active and aggressive way" during a city altercation
Three women have appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with disorderly behaviour.
Kathleen Brown (41) of Foyle Road, Chloe Casey (27) of Abercorn Road and Caitlin Callaghan (28) of Glenabbey Street all in Derry were charged with the offences that were said to have occurred on April 18 this year.
CCTV footage shown to the court showed the three women involved in an altercation involving another person.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that, in Brown's case, 'the footage is very clear' and showed her attempting to break up the incident, supposedly acting as 'a peacemaker' who's only involvement was trying to stop the situation from getting out of control.
Defence solicitor Keith Kyle echoed this for Callaghan, saying that she was 'not at any stage the aggressor'.
Casey had pleaded guilty.
District Judge Suzanne Rice rejected these claims, saying that Brown and Callaghan were 'involved in an active and aggressive way'.
She ordered pre-sentence reports for all three and they will appear again on September 9.
