Tierney highlights moves to combat anti-social behaviour

A “tremendous amount of good work” is taking place to curb anti-social behaviour at Old School Lane in the Shantallow area of Derry, SDLP Cllr Brian Tierney has said.

Cllr Tierney acknowledged that residents of the area had been forced to live with high levels of anti-social behaviour for too long.

Cllr Tierney said: "Residents whose homes back on to the underpass have been victims of anti social behaviour for a number of years. I am working closely with them in conjunction with Shantallow Community Residents Association to improve their home safety measures while there are huge efforts being made to curb anti-social behaviour.

"A tremendous amount of good work is being carried out in Old School Lane through co-operation with the PSNI, Community Safety Wardens, both local housing associations, residents and councillors."

Cllr Tierney pointed out a process was currently underway to gate off the nearby underpass (pictured above) while broken street lights would to be repaired shortly.

He said he hoped these moves would significantly reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour in the area.

Cllr Tierney concluded: "I am well aware of the serious issues surrounding anti-social behaviour in the area and I would like to assure residents that hard work to combat it will continue."
