Top Premiership referee ‘booked’ for Derry visit

One of the best known faces from the world of football is to visit Derry later this year.
Premiership referee Mark Halsey (pictured) will attend an event in Custom House Restaurant at 6.30pm on Sunday, 1 November, to promote his book, “Added Time.”
The publication takes readers to where no other book has gone - inside the dressing rooms on match days, into the intense tunnel and on-field conversations and confrontations between officials and the game's participants.
It chronicles the highs and lows, joy and pain, and reveals the human face of that man in the middle.
Halsey also lifts the lid on surviving the internal politics, personalities and intrigue of top-flight refereeing, on altercations with Alex Ferguson and earfuls from Wayne Rooney.
Running through Halsey's powerful and poignant story is his brave battle with throat cancer, through surgery and gruelling treatment, after which the popular Halsey returned to the top.
The night will include a presentation from Halsey on his career and personal battle with cancer and a Q&A session with a few prizes on the night.
Guests are asked to make a personal donation to his charity on the night.
Tickets are £20 each with a three course menu being served.
Limited spaces are available.
Anyone interested in attending is asked to confirm by Monday next, 21 September, with the North West referee secretary Gerry Morrison.
