Ulster Special Constabulary Association to parade in Derry
A group set up following the disbanding of the “B Specials” is to march in Derry next week.
The Ulster Special Constabulary Association has informed the Parades Commission that it will parade in the Waterside area of the city on Sunday week, 19 April.
A parade will leave Glendermott Road at 2.30pm and make its way to Clooney Road along Bond Street, May Street and Limavady Road.
Following a church service, the parade will return along the same route.
Around 70 people, accompanied by the Churchill Flute Band, are expected to take part.
The British Government, on the recommendation of the Hunt committee on policing in Northern Ireland, disbanded the Ulster Special Constabulary, known as the “B Specials,” in 1970.
The report followed the involvement of the "B Specials" in the "Battle of the Bogside" (pictured above) in the summer of 1969.
