VIDEO: Motorist criticised for performing dangerous manoeuvre on busy road

A video showing a dangerous driver on a Co Derry road has been widely criticised.
The video has been viewed more than 14,000 times after it was posted on the ‘Idiot Drivers Northern Ireland’ Facebook page on June 18.
It shows the driver of a Ford Focus narrowly avoiding a collision with a white van. The footage was filmed near Killaloo as the driver travelled along the Foreglen Road in the Dungiven direction.
The dangerous driver was criticised by many on the Facebook page, who described him as an “idiot,”a “moron” and a “selfish plank” for his actions.
One man questioned why drivers like the one in the video were on the road at all.
“Where do they get their licences. Lucky bags?” he asked.
Other people said that the driver who took the footage was at fault, as they believed that he was driving too slow.
“Don't drive at 40mph you plonker, slow drivers are the cause of most road accidents. Out for a tootle with the Mrs with the windows down,” one comment read.
“The guy who has to get somewhere quicker is not always at fault.”
The driver who took the footage posted an image which said that he was travelling at 55mph when the dangerous driver performed the manoeuvre. Several commenters came to the defence of the driver who posted the video.
“Can't believe some people are trying to justify this idiot’s actions! Whilst I fully admit it can be frustrating getting stuck behind someone going more slowly than conditions allow, I also understand that I don't own the road,” one woman wrote.
“There could be a perfectly plausible reason why a car might slow down - warning light has come on, something feels wrong with car, lost or unfamiliar with the area. Have a bit of compassion.”
