Nominations have opened for the 2025 AIB Community €1 Million Fund in mid-May and AIB Donegal Town/Killybegs has held an information evening for local charities.

Charities in the local area were invited into the AIB Donegal Town branch to hear about the process for applying for funding from the AIB Community €1 Million Fund process in 2025.

Charities including Donegal Family Resource Centre, Niall Mhor, Bluestack Centre , Donegal Cancer Support Centre, Sliabh Liag Special Needs, Scoil Aodh Rua & Nuala were in attendance at the information evening in AIB Donegal Town; as well as our newly appointed Mayor, Anna Gallagher.

The Bluestack Centre and Donegal Cancer Support Centre were awarded from the Fund in 2024 and attended the evening to discuss the simplicity of the process and how they promoted the Fund in their community to promote nominations for their charity.

Each year, AIB allocates €1 million to charities chosen by its customers, members of the public and staff. The funds are distributed following an online nomination process, one for customers and one for employees, and are split across five regions in Ireland – Munster, Ulster, Greater Dublin, the rest of Leinster, and Connacht. Charities can receive amounts ranging from €6,000 up to €26,000.

Sabrina Brosnan, AIB Donegal Branch manager, said: “We’re delighted to welcome local charities into our branch to provide information on this year’s AIB Community €1 Million Fund. The application and nomination process are very easy and we are here to support in any way we can.

“We’ve seen firsthand how this funding has helped the charities over the last few years and the difference it can make, especially to smaller local charities. We look forward to the nomination process opening in mid-May and hope to see our local community in Donegal nominating charities that matter most to them.”

To date, 220 charities have been supported by the AIB Community €1 Million Fund, demonstrating the commitment of AIB and its branches as they continue to support local charities within their local communities. The Fund supports a diverse, broad range of charities and helps to keep up their good and much-needed work.

The Fund runs on an annual basis, with selected local charities rotated each year. The AIB Community €1 Million Fund will re-open in mid-May to receive nominations until mid-June. The top 12 charities that receive the highest number of nominations from customers, employees and the wider public in each region will be announced in September. The nomination form and full details on the AIB Community €1 Million Fund will be available on their website in the coming weeks.
