Urgent repairs to be carried out

Donegal County Council say that the main bridge over the River Erne will have to be closed for urgent repairs tonight.

It says that emergency repairs are to take place to an expansion joint on Cathaleen's Falls Bridge in Ballyshannon - the bridge that crosses and overlooks Ballyshannon on the main N15 bypass of the town.

The temporary closure will take place from the night of the 28 February (tonight) from 9pm until 5am tomorrow morning (Tuesday, March 1, 2022) to carry out urgent repairs

Northbound traffic will be diverted onto the R936 through Main Street on the R267 Donegal Road and back onto the N15 at the N15 Erne Roundabout.

Southbound traffic will be diverted onto the R267 Donegal Road through Market Street onto the R936 back onto the N15 at the Belleek Road roundabout.

The Bridge carries the N15 Bundoran Ballyshannon Bypass over the River Erne at Ballyshannon.

The two tier pedestrian and single carriageway arched bridge is located 500 metres west of the historic Cathaleen’s Falls Hydroelectric Dam.
