The lifeboat was launched early this morning following reports of a missing kayaker off Glen Head. Following reports that the missing kayaker had been located in Glen Head - the voluntary RNLI crew were dispatched to find a missing kayaker in the Portnoo area

The Arranmore RNLI lifeboat crew located a missing kayaker in the Portnoo earlier today. The voluntary crew were dispatched to the area following a report of a missing kayaker. On arrival they mapped out a search area and successfully located the kayaker just off Dawross Head near Portnoo.

The Arranmore RNLI had launched earlier at 10.42am this morning, Saturday, June 10, in response to reports of a missing kayaker off the coast of Glen Head. However, their attention turned to the Portnoo incident on being informed the Glen Head kayaker had been located.

Coxswain Sean O’Donnell said: "We are really pleased that both kayakers are safe and well.”

Sean has recently passed out as coxswain of the Arranmore RNLI and this is only the second call out he has been in charge of the lifeboat. His first call was for a medical evacuation from Arranmore to Burtonport and today’s call out is the first to an emergency at sea.

“It was a privilege to take charge of the lifeboat today, sea conditions were calm and the outcome was the best. As the weather gets warmer more people use the sea for recreation and work and we ask that all those going to sea avail of the RNLI’s safety message,” he said.
