Doors open at 6.30pm and the film will start at 7pm sharp. Please note, the film is PG rated and contains distressing scenes.

Shanshula details the lives of the Palestinian fishing community in the Gaza Strip who have lost loved ones, have been displaced or disabled by Israeli navy aggression.

Shanshula is a type of fishing net in the slang of local Palestinian fishermen who confront daily humiliations. The film also tells the story of one of the few Palestinian fisherwomen in the Gaza Strip.

The film was about to be premiered in Gaza in early October 2023. Following the Israeli onslaught, an addition was made to the film to show the forceful evacuation of the fishing community from the north to the south of the Gaza Strip and the suffering of the Palestinian people under the Israeli genocidal attack.

Shanshula was produced in cooperation between Sheffield Palestine solidarity campaign and a local media organisation providing training for youngsters called the Palestinian Vanguard Station which was bombed and destroyed by Israeli F16 fighter jets in Jan 2024.

Fimmaker Musheir El Farra is a political activist, writer, public speaker and filmmaker. Originally from Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip Palestine, Musheir is author of "Gaza, When the sky rained White Fire" and is Chair of Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign. At each showing people will be invited to contribute to a solidarity fund that will be sent directly to the displaced, maimed and bereaved fishing families of Gaza via the Solidarity Campaign in Sheffield, where the filmmaker currently resides.
