Authorities continue probes into suspended Donegal gymnastics coach

A Donegal-based gymnastics coach at the centre of allegations of inappropriate behaviour last year remains suspended.
The male coach was stood down in 2024 and both Gymnastics Ireland and An Garda Síochána say that their respective investigations remain “ongoing”.
Gymnastics Ireland, the national governing body for the sport, stood down the coach, who is attached to one of its affiliated clubs.
The coach at the centre of the allegations worked mainly with underage gymnasts.
“The investigation is still ongoing and the individual in question is still suspended,” a Gymnastics Ireland spokesperson told Donegal Live.
“As previously outlined, whilst this process is underway, we are not in a position to comment any further. We remain in contact with the relevant authorities.
The coach was suspended immediately once Gymnastics Ireland was made aware of the allegations.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed that its investigation is also “ongoing” and added: “No further information is available at this time.”
Donegal Live understands that a young person raised concerns with a parent over alleged contact of a sexual nature by a coach.
It is believed that the initial accusation subsequently prompted further complaints of a similar nature.
Previously, a Garda was assigned to the case and statements from several parties have been taken.
Tusla Child and Family Agency, the dedicated State agency responsible for improving wellbeing and outcomes for children, has also been involved in the matter.
Last June, Letterkenny Community Centre issued a statement saying that: “The allegations do not relate to anybody employed here at Letterkenny Community Gymnastics Club, or in relation to any of the gymnastics programmes that we run here at Letterkenny Community Centre."
