Cllr Michael McMahon asked Donegal MD to send letter of congratulations to Isabella O’Reilly and Irish surfing team

Cllr Michael McMahon asked the Donegal Municipal District to send a letter of congratulations to the Irish team at the Euro Surf Junior 2026 European Championships that were recently held in Bundoran, in particular to Ballyshannon’s Isabella O’Reilly.

O’Reilly finished the Championships with a bronze medal in the U-16 category, and was one of three Irish surfers to reach a finals, in an event that attracted competitors from 20 nations.

The Irish junior surfing team finished sixth overall in the European championships, marking a strong performance against some of the continent’s leading surfing nations.

Cllr McMahon, speaking at October’s MD meeting at the Donegal County Council office buildings in Drumlonagher, said: “I want to thank Donegal County Council and congratulate all the competitors at the (Euro Surf) Junior 2026 European Surfing Championships in Bundoran.

“It was a fantastic 10 days here. It was fantastic that so many countries were all represented and the organisers organised first-class entertainment.

“There was also a fantastic festival, and everything went well.

“The Irish team, led by Isabella O’Reilly, came third. They were very good.

“I would ask this Municipal District to send a letter to Isabella O’Reilly and to the Irish team, a congratulations. I think they are one their way to becoming world champions.”
