Putting a new stamp on its history: PO opens at SuperValu on the Cockhill Road

The final curtain has fallen for the Post Office on Buncrana’s Main Street after more than eighty years, during which time it has served tens of thousands of customers and helped deliver countless more letters and parcels.

The Buncrana Post Office, which dates back to World War II, has now relocated to its new home at SuperValu on the Cockhill Road in the town.

Current Postmaster Christian McGinley has been at the helm for almost a decade, since 2016, following in the footsteps of his father Carl (Postmaster from 1983-2016) and grandfather Charles (1944-83) before him.

The new Post Office opened its counters for business at SuperValu supermarket on Monday, June 9, when it was already busy with customers, beginning a new chapter in its long and celebrated history.
