Celebrations after dark for all the family on Friday night, September 18

Buncrana is set to come alive once again this September as Culture Night Buncrana 2026 returns with an even bigger celebration of creativity, culture and community.

Following the success of last year's inaugural Culture Night Trail through the town, this year's event will build on that momentum with an expanded programme of activity, extending later into the evening and transforming Buncrana into a vibrant cultural destination after 6pm.

Taking place on Friday, 18 September 2026, Culture Night Buncrana 2026 will once again see the town come alive with a cultural trail.

The programme of events will be delivered under the theme "Edge of the Atlantic, Heart and Sound of the Arts," celebrating Buncrana's unique identity through music, storytelling, visual arts, performance and shared cultural experiences.

The event is delivered as a part of Donegal County Council's Night-Time Economy Initiative, working in collaboration with local businesses, artists, performers and community organisations.

Earlier this summer, an Expression of Interest campaign was launched inviting local businesses, artists, performers, organisations and creatives to become part of this year's celebration.

Businesses are encouraged to consider opening later into the evening, hosting creative activity or collaborating with local artists to help transform Buncrana into a town-wide cultural experience.

Building on the foundations established in 2025, this year's programme will feature an expanded range of performances, exhibitions, workshops, live music, storytelling and creative experiences, while continuing to develop The Heart and Sound of Buncrana - a community-led cultural trail celebrating the people, places and creativity that make Buncrana unique.

A key focus for 2026 is extending activity later into the evening, encouraging residents and visitors to explore Buncrana after dark.

Sophie Gallagher, Night-Time Economy Advisor with Donegal County Council, explains.

“Culture Night has already shown the positive impact that culture and creativity can have in bringing people together and activating our town centre into the evening.”

“We're looking forward to building on the success of last year and look forward to showcasing local businesses, artists, performers and community organisations.”

“Whether you're hosting an event, opening your doors a little later than usual or collaborating with others, every contribution helps create a vibrant and welcoming Culture Night experience for Buncrana. It is also great to have a local events company, MRK, on board to help deliver a high-quality event in town.”

Another service funded under the Night-Time Economy Initiative will take place on the night, the pilot night bus, ‘One @ One’. The Local Link service will leave from Buncrana Cinema at 1am, along the Local Link 959 route.

The Culture Night programme is being announced daily on social media in the run-up to the night, so please follow ‘Buncrana by Night’ social media channels, with artist announcements, venue spotlights and programme highlights revealed as the countdown to Friday 18th September begins.
