Buncrana workshop to highlight flood prevention and river health

Taking place this Wednesday, April 29th, from 7:30pm to 8:30pm, the session will connect local action to broader environmental impact.
Residents of Buncrana and across Inishowen are being invited to take part in an engaging online workshop hosted by the Mill River Conservation Group Buncrana, titled “Seeds of Change: From Stream to Shore,” which will explore how everyday actions from rural roads to urban streets can influence water flow, flooding, and river health.
Taking place this Wednesday, April 29th, from 7:30pm to 8:30pm, the session will connect local action to broader environmental impact by tracing the journey of water from stream to shore and highlighting the role communities play in protecting natural resources.
Guest speaker Cara Marie Brady, who holds an MSc in Disaster Management and Resilience, will guide participants through Home and Local Flood Prevention, explaining how water moves through our landscape. While also exploring the role of drains, culverts, and local infrastructure.
Cara will offer participants practical ways to reduce flood risk at home and in the community, and discuss the importance of maintaining and protecting drainage systems.
The workshop will also feature contributions from Buncrana Tidy Towns, focusing on how much work on the ground goes into keeping the Buncrana community litter-free.
Organisers will highlight how simple actions such as keeping drains clear and disposing of waste properly can make a meaningful difference in protecting waterways and reducing environmental damage.
The event will emphasise why this work matters, noting that it protects river health and biodiversity, reduces local flood risk, supports clean water from the Crana River to Lough Swilly, and connects local community action to global environmental responsibility.
The event will take place online, and those interested can register via Eventbrite at Seeds of Change, "From Stream To Shore."
