Surge of support for 100% Redress leaves Inishowen without a Fine Gael councillor

Ali Farren of 100% Redress has topped the poll in the four-seat Carndonagh LEA with Fine Gael’s Johnny McGuinness losing out.

Martin McDermott of Fianna Fáil, who topped the poll in 2019, was elected on the first count along with Ali Farren.

Sinn Féin’s Albert Doherty held his seat after being elected on the sixth count.

The impact of the 100% Redress vote had left three sitting candidates contesting the last two seats.

The election has left Fine Gael without a councillor in Inishowen. McGuinness, who was co-opted to take the seat held by his late after Bernard, lost out in the final count to Martin Farren of Labour.
