Free public artist talk offers insight into acclaimed ceramic exhibition

Visitors are being invited to Fort Dunree next week for a free public artist talk by internationally acclaimed ceramic artist Mary O'Malley, whose solo exhibition Setting is currently on display at Artlink.

The artist talk will take place at Artlink, Fort Dunree, on Thursday, July 23, at 5pm, and offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from the artist about the development of the exhibition before it concludes on July 26.

Created during Mary O'Malley's Artlink residency at Fort Dunree in the summer of 2025, Setting is a ceramic installation that explores themes of empire, transformation and the passage of time. The work responds to the site's rich military history while drawing connections between Ireland and the American South through clay, architecture and the natural world.

Featuring symbolic elements such as bees, butterflies and gold, the installation evokes cycles of renewal and invites viewers to consider human history within the much larger scales of geological and ecological time.

An Irish-American ceramic artist and professor of art, Mary O'Malley holds a Master's degree from the Royal College of Art in London and has exhibited internationally, with her work appearing at prestigious venues including the Saatchi Gallery, the British Ceramics Biennial and Christie's.

The free talk promises a fascinating insight into both the exhibition and the artistic ideas that inspired it. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to book their place in advance via Mary O'Malley's website.
