Council receives application for astroturf pitch in Gaeltacht.

Planned astroturf pitch and sensory garden walkway for Áislann Rann Na Feirste
A community centre in Rann na Feirste has applied to Donegal County Council for planning permission to build an astroturf pitch, supported by floodlights and a sensory garden.
Áislann Rann Na Feirste submitted the application for permission to construct an astroturf pitch with fencing and a ball stop, on the footprint of an existing grass pitch, along with six ten-metre-high flood lighting surrounding the pitch, along with a new sensory garden walkway with low-level lighting to the sensory walkway.
A comment from Cornerstone Associates, on behalf of the applicant, stated: “Our clients would like to convert the existing grass football pitch into an astroturf pitch so it may be used all year round.”
The centre is a community-based, non-profit, charitable-status organisation that aims to preserve heritage and language. The centre itself was opened in June 2010 and officially opened in October 2011.
Donegal County Council has set a decision due date for the submitted planning application for September 24.
