Fianna Fáil Councillor Anthony Molloy has been elected as Cathaoirleach of the Glenties Municipal District.
The proposal was made by Sinn Féin Councillor Brian Carr and seconded by party colleague John Sheamais Ó’Fhearraigh.
“This is a big deal for me and my family,” Councillor Molloy said. “There is a lot going on in this MD and I will work with all members to ensure things get done.”

“It has been a very good year,” Cllr McClafferty said. “I want to thank everyone for getting behind me. Among the many highlights of my term, I would like to draw attention to a new initiative by Noreen Doogan and Denis McGeady, who work at MABS, who hosted a digital literacy workshop. It will be a huge help for all members of the public going forward.”
Cllr Ó’Fhearraigh commended Cllr McClafferty on his work throughout the year. “You showed tremendous skill and got additional funding within our MD.”
However, Independent Councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig claimed that: “There was a deal done in Lifford and our group was excluded from talks. I would like to wish Anthony the best. It's nothing personal. I served as chair for one term during 12 years as a council member. There is no equality, so I don’t want pretence.”
Cllr Molloy and Cllr Carr will now serve as Cathaoirleach and Leas-Chathaoirleach of the Glenties MD for a one-year term.
