A Councillor said he wants to “correct the record” regarding the result of the Donegal SFC final.
St Eunan’s dethroned Naomh Conaill in a dramatic decider at Sean Mac Cumhaill Park, Ballybofey, on Sunday. However, RTÉ News: Six One and RTÉ News: Nine O’Clock, broadcast on the day of the county final, incorrectly stated that Naomh Conaill were the 2026 county champions.

The final score was St Eunan's 1-16, Naomh Conaill 1-15, after Ciaran Moore scored the winning point for the Letterkenny club. The victory marked the first-ever senior treble in Donegal, with the footballers joining the club’s hurlers and LGFA team in winning their championships.
“It is important to correct the record, as my colleagues told me that RTÉ News had it [on Sunday] that Naomh Conaill won it, so it is important to set the record straight,” Fianna Fáil councillor Ciaran Brogan said at a Special Plenary meeting. “It has been a great year for St Eunan’s, winning the senior county championship, the reserve county championship, and indeed the hurling and the ladies county championships.”
Cathoirleach Sinn Féin councillor Gary Doherty opened the meeting by congratulating St Eunan’s on their victory. “It was a dramatic day for sport in the county and a brilliant display of the talent we have.” An array of councillors then joined in congratulating the county champions.
