Malin Head Coastguard coordinated early-morning rescue off south coast of Tory Island

Two fishermen have been rescued after their thirty-six foot crabbing vessel, Silver Rose, sank off the southern side of Tory Island early at around 6am this morning, Monday.

A mayday signal was picked up at 5.58am by members of the Malin Head Coastguard Coordination Centre.

The Malin Head Coastguard Coordination Centre carried out a mayday relay call to members of the Rescue 118 helicopter service, Arranmore Lifeboat, Tory Island Coastguard, Bunbeg Coastguard and also a local fishing vessel in the area called the Ailbhe Marie.

The fishing boat located the two fishermen in an emergency life raft. They brought the two crew members to Machaire Rabhartaigh where they were met by the Bunbeg Coastguard.

Weather conditions were calm at the time.

The men and their emergency life raft were taken to the pier at Magheraroarty where members of Bunbeg Lifeboat met the fishermen.

The men were found to not need medical attention.

A spokesperson for Malin Head Coastguard said that both men who were rescued this morning were not in need of medical attention.
