Road in north Donegal closed due to icy conditioned as temperatures set to drop below freezing

Donegal County Council has issued a warning against travelling due to freezing rain.

The local authority has advised that freezing rain is predicted from 5pm on Saturday until 11am on Sunday and some routes could be treacherous and unable to be treated.

“All routes throughout the county may not be treated and driving could be treacherous,” the council said. “Avoid travel if possible.”

The warning comes as Met Éireann says Saturday night will see lowest temperatures of -3 to 0 degrees.

Meanwhile, due to icy road conditions, the L-1192 Lough Salt Road from Kilmacrennan to Glen village has been closed. Motorists have been advised to avoid the route.
