Letterkenny and Carndonagh-based services allocated combined €40,000

Donegal Youth Service and Lifeline Inishowen have received grants as part of Government funding for community-based counselling services supporting children and families.

The Minister for Children, Norma Foley, announced a €1.5 million annual funding for 73 community and voluntary organisations delivering essential counselling and therapeutic supports to children and families.

Donegal Youth Service in Letterkenny was allocated €25,000 in funding, whilst Lifeline Inishowen, based in Carndonagh, received €15,000.

Established in 1981, Donegal Youth Services offers services to over 30 affiliated youth clubs and projects, providing support and opportunities tailored to the real needs of those aged from 3 to 30.

Lifeline Inishowen is a domestic violence service that provides a community response offering a first step to support women and children in Inishowen who are experiencing domestic violence.

Minister Foley said: “This funding will help children and young people to get timely and effective access to counselling services in their own communities.

“These services are deeply responsive to local needs. They play a vital role in delivering therapy for children and young people and their families when they are most needed.”
