Donegal youth campaign offers supports for students after Leaving Cert results

The campaign is aimed at supporting young people who have recently received their Leaving Certificate results but feel uncertain about their next steps to take
A new campaign has been launched in Donegal to support students who recently received Leaving Certificate results.
The Letterkenny Youth Information Centre (YIC) located at the Donegal Youth Service DYS, in partnership with the DYS Targeted Youth Support Initiative (TYESI), congratulates all the young people who have recently received their Leaving Certificate results.
The campaign is aimed at supporting young people who have recently received their Leaving Certificate results but feel uncertain about their next steps to take. This initiative is designed for those who may lack clear career pathways, struggle to identify their skills, or are unsure about how to pursue further education or employment. YIC and TYESI are there to help!
“We know that receiving Leaving Cert results can be a mixed experience, especially for those without a clear plan,” said Katarzyna Kurzeja, Information Officer for Letterkenny YIC. “Our goal is to be a vital resource, offering personalised support to help young people navigate this critical transition. We want them to know they are not alone and that there are many paths to a successful future that we can help them with at such an important time in their life.”
The YIC will provide free, confidential youth information services to help young people explore their options. This includes guidance on a wide range of topics, such as:
Further Education: How to find your entitlements and apply for PLC courses, apprenticeships, and university programmes whether in Ireland, the UK or the EU.
Employment: Tips for finding job opportunities and understanding labour market trends.
Volunteering: Opportunities to gain valuable experience and build a professional network with the DYS or other Youth organisations in Ireland and the European Union.
General Youth Information such as Youth Talk, rights issues, entitlements, important services etc.
The collaboration with TYESI adds a crucial layer of practical support. The Targeted Youth Support Initiative will work directly with young people one to one, online or in groups to:
Find what job or career opportunities suit the young person and help them set SMART goals.
Create a Skills Summary portfolio: Help individuals identify and articulate their unique strengths, experiences, and transferable skills that employers want.
Build a Strong CV: Provide one-on-one assistance in creating a professional and impactful curriculum vitae that highlights their transferable skills and experiences.
Career and Training Guidance: Offer dedicated support in securing training placements, finding suitable courses, and exploring career options that align with their personal interests and goals.
Interview skills with practice including questions and answers, positive presentation and body language and much more.
“TYESI is committed to helping young people turn their aspirations into reality,” said Paul Anderson, the Development Officer running the TYESI programme. “By working closely with the YIC and other DYS projects, we can provide a holistic approach that gives young people the information they need, along with the hands-on support to turn that information into action. We’re here to help them build the confidence and skills required to find a career or course that truly fits them.”
Young people who wish to avail of these free services can contact Katarzyna on 074 9129630 or [email protected] or Paul on 086 8109584 at [email protected] or just drop in to YIC, Donegal Youth Service, Port Road, Letterkenny for a chat any afternoon Monday to Friday.
