Dungloe motorist five times over limit had 'little recollection'
Three-year disqualification was imposed on the man at Letterkenny District Court
A Dungloe man who was almost five times over the legal drink-drive limit has been given a three-year driving ban.
Enda Walsh had 'little recollection' of the incident, which occurred on August 24, 2021.
Walsh (31), of Shaskinaroe, Dungloe was before Letterkenny District Court.
As a result of a traffic stop at Circular Road, Letterkenny, Gardaí formed the opinion that Walsh was driving while under the influence of an intoxicant.
Walsh, the court heard, made no reply when charged.
Walsh provided a urine same which returned a reading of 332 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of urine - 4.95 times over the limit.
Solicitor, Mr Donough Cleary, said Walsh, who has no previous convictions, was employed in the public service.
“He has little recollection, he was out the night before,” Mr Cleary said.
“The fact that he can’t remember might have a whole lot do to with the amount he had to drink,” Judge Alan Mitchell remarked.
Walsh was fined €300, given six months to pay and disqualified for three years. Judge Mitchell agreed to a six-month deferral on the disqualification.
“The levels indicated are very high,” Judge Mitchell told Walsh, “but I have taken into account the fact that there are no previous convictions. Be careful in the future; a driving licence is a privilege not a right.”
