As the sun shone down, hotels, bars and restaurants filled with people of all ages and visitors from throughout Ireland, America, Switzerland and France to join the events.
There were fond recollections of stories and events of Dinny’s life. His former band members from Aileach talked about their touring days and success in Ireland and abroad. Music and dance students talked about his work ethic and his love for what he did. Dinny’s constant strive for perfection resulted in many Ulster and All-Ireland champions in both music and dance competitions. His students were grateful for his commitment to them and his sense of fun.
The festival, hosted by the Inishowen Traditional Music Project (ITMP), programmed a full weekend of events that would engage various elements of the community. There were workshops for learners, sessions for musicians to join in, opportunities for people to share their memories at the poetry and dance events. Performers ranged in age from 10 to 80 years. Young emerging talent in the Inishowen Youth Trad Orchestra, festival club bands, sessions right through to the accomplished artists all added to the festival celebration.

As the Inishowen Trad Orchestra and Choir took to the stage on Saturday night, excitement was building. The months of rehearsals of new music for the One hundred and Six members were about to be shared.
On the eight-foot digital screens, on either side of the stage Dinny appeared playing the air Moving Spirit on which the movement was based. As the orchestra joined in the swell of the music arranged by Martin Tourish captivated everyone. For the following hour Martin Tourish conducted the orchestra and choir through moments of great emotion, fun, drama and devilment.
Martin’s arrangements enhancing Dinny’s music, song and words. There were many tears but also a great appreciation for the legacy of what Dinny has given us.
ITMP is grateful to all the visiting performers who came to Buncrana to enjoy and take part in events. The atmosphere over the weekend was of joy, respect and pride for the richness of our culture preserved and enhanced by Dinny.
We are grateful to the Buncrana community who are no strangers to hosting All-Ireland fleadhs and festivals. To all the businesses and groups who got behind this festival we sincerely thank you.
Thanks to the Arts Council of Ireland, Donegal County Council, LEADER through Inishowen Development Partnership, Redcastle Hotel/Harcourt Developments and local businesses for their support.
