‘Financially challenging time’ for ISPCA amid Animal Rehabilitation Centre doubts

Chairperson says organisation is in 'process of reviewing all of our costs'
The Chairperson for the Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) said the organisation was under a “financially challenging time” as questions have arisen about the long-term future of the ISPCA Donegal Animal Rehabilitation Centre.
Donegal Live contacted both the ISPCA and the Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, to enquire about a potential merger between the organisations and about the future of the ISPCA Donegal Animal Rehabilitation Centre.
The ISPCA Chairperson Pete Wedderburn said: “Like many animal welfare charities, the ISPCA is in a financially challenging time, with rising costs and reduced income from donations.
“Naturally, our operations need to be tailored to meet our ongoing income, and so we are in the process of reviewing all of our costs. At the moment, it is impossible to be sure about what this review will lead to, as there are many different elements and options under consideration. Therefore, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time”.
Sarah Hynes of Kano Communications, a PR partner for the DSPCA, told Donegal Live the future of the ISPCA Donegal Animal Rehabilitation Centre “would be decided by the ISPCA.”
She said: “That closure has nothing to do with the DSPCA.
“The DSPCA cannot comment on the closure. That is something completely separate.
“In terms of the comment on the merger, the section of the closure is not something that the DSPCA can comment on.”
