Fr Kelly will get the trim as part of a special fundraising event in Donegal Town to support the international charity Mary's Meals

Fr Eamonn Kelly will bid farewell to his trademark beard this Saturday, July 11, as part of a special fundraising event in Donegal Town to support the international charity Mary's Meals.

The charity, which provides life-changing school meals to children living in some of the world's poorest communities, says that a nutritious meal served in a place of education encourages children to attend school, helping them gain an education and hope for a brighter future.

Just 11 cent can provide a child with a meal for one school day, meaning every donation can make a significant difference. You can donate on iDonate Fr Kelly’s Beard Shave Challenge for Mary’s Meals.

The fundraising event will take place in the Diamond, Donegal Town, from 12 noon on Saturday, with the highlight being Fr Kelly's beard shave. Organisers are promising a lively afternoon of music, dancing and family-friendly entertainment, and are encouraging the public to come along and support the cause.

As the countdown continues to the event, organisers have thanked Fr Kelly for agreeing to part with his beard in aid of helping children receive daily meals and access to education.

Those unable to attend in person but who would still like to support the fundraiser are encouraged to make a donation online through the fundraising page. Organisers are also asking people to help spread the word by sharing details of the event with family and friends.

All funds raised will go towards Mary's Meals' work in providing school meals to children in some of the world's most vulnerable communities.
