Gaeil Fhánada consider options on alleged incident that has 'no place on field'

Gaeil Fhánada manager Aidan McAteer said his team were beaten fair and square in Sunday evening's Donegal IFC semi-final but was unhappy with an alleged verbal incident that took place
Gaeil Fhánada GAA club are likely to issue a statement after an incident in their Michael Murphy Intermediate championship semi-final clash with Naomh Columba in MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey on Sunday evening.
The Fanad club are very unhappy with an alleged verbal incident which took place during the first half of the game and led to one of their players being very distressed in the dressing room at half-time.
Then at the end of the game, there was a confrontation between the Gaeil Fhánada player and a Naomh Columba player. Naomh Columba were winners on a 4-11 to 2-9 scoreline.
Speaking on Sunday evening, Gaeil Fhánada manager, Aidan McAteer, told Donegal Live that they had alerted the referee, Val Murray, of the alleged verbals which left their player clearly upset.
"I know it is very difficult for a referee and we understand he can only deal with things that he sees or hears,” McAteer said.
"I was no angel in my days playing football, but I was never involved in anything that I couldn't shake my opponent's hand at the end of the game or be able to talk to them when I would meet them in the street afterwards.
"What happened has no place on any field. We don't want this to sound as sour grapes. We are happy with the result, we gave it our all and Naomh Columba were worthy winners and I was able to shake their hands afterwards.
"For us, putting in a performance like that with so many injured and missing, we are very happy with the way we performed this year. It has taken us a while to establish ourselves at Intermediate level.”
It is understood the Gaeil Fhánada club will consider what action they can take.
