The Navenny Street car park in Ballybofey was transformed into a St Patrick's Day festival village on Friday as a combination of contributors with novel festival games, animals, local musical talent, food, sport, kites, arts and crafts provided an excellent array of activities for all visitors.
Organised jointly by the Ballybofey-Stranorlar Chamber of Commerce and the Ballybofey and Stranorlar Integrated Community Company (BASICC), this year's celebrations attracted over 2,000 throughout the course of the day and despite intermittent rainfall, the dry conditions ensured all attractions were fully subscribed and enjoyed.
Chief marshall for the event, Dean Gillespie, said they were delighted with the turnout and the level of participation.
"Everyone is doing something and enjoying the festivities as there is something here for everyone. We decided to keep everything at a central location so everyone could have an opportunity to make this special day one to remember."
He added he was very impressed with the number of newcomers to the town getting involved this year.
"Over half of our volunteers are foreign nationals and they have been absolutely first-class with children and adults integrating really well and helping make thsi a real community event to be proud of," he said.
Local councillor Patrick McGowan said the location also helped to people in and around the town for the day which in turn helped local businesses. He praised all involved in making the event happen and run off so successfully.
