A Drumkeen native, Darran Brennan, has been elected to Fianna Fáil's Ard Chomhairle, the party's prestigious national executive committee, following voting at the party's Ard Fheis over the weekend, which marked the organisation's 100th anniversary.
Securing the third seat on the male panel of the Committee of 15 with the third highest number of first preferences, the election represents a significant achievement for representation from the North West of Ireland.
The successful candidate is the only male representative elected to the Ard Chomhairle who originates from the North West region, underlining the importance of broad geographical representation within the party's leadership structures.
In a historic moment for Fianna Fáil, the election also marks the first time a married couple will serve simultaneously on the Ard Chomhairle. The candidate's wife, Sinéad Lucey Brennan, who serves as President and founder of Fianna Fáil's Disability Network, is also on the body.
The candidate, now based in Skerries, North County Dublin, expressed his commitment to representing members' interests on the national executive and bringing both rural and urban perspectives to Fianna Fáil's decision-making processes.
Commenting, Brennan said: Special thanks to my family and my extended family in Drumkeen, Skerries and Kanturk, County Cork and my supporters in the North West, Dublin, Cork and throughout the country. I'll strive to be a voice for urban and rural party members.
The election took place at the Ard Fheis, the party's annual conference, which this year held particular significance as Fianna Fáil celebrated a century of service to the Irish people.
