People came from across Ireland to attend the return of Daniel and Majella O’Donnell’s tea party.
Having hosted the last in 2000, the couple decided to bring it back after 26 years in support of the Irish Cancer Society. The event was a boil-the-kettle appeal supported by Relay for Life.
“I suppose the sad thing about it is that there are very few families who are not affected by cancer,” Daniel told Donegal Live at the event. “This is why people survive; days like this raise money and research.
“That’s why Majella is here today. If the research wasn't done, they wouldn't know what to do when her time came to be treated, so we're grateful to everybody for being here and all the local people that have run it. We're just overwhelmed by the amount of people from every corner of Ireland and further.”
People queued up in massive numbers, despite the rain, to get a photo along with Daniel and Majella and support the cause.
“It’s brilliant to see so many people here; my biggest sadness is the weather,” Majella added. “But you know what, I have always said when you are going through chemotherapy you would give anything to be able to get out of bed and go for a walk in the rain and I mean nobody here is complaining; they’re all queuing up in the rain. So thanks to everybody, it's just fantastic, and it’s all for a great cause.”
