Tracey Flood writes: Ronald McDonald House has been home away from home for well over 5,000 families since it first opened in November 2004 and with the New Children’s Hospital nearly complete it has had to rebuild beside it.
They are looking for the public to support their fundraiser ‘Thanks a Million’ to finish off the house.
Both myself and Caroline Loughlin's families stayed there when our boys were ill, and it was one less thing to worry about in very stressful times. Accommodation right beside the hospital, where rest of family could visit and stay, someplace to cook, clean, sleep and often just to have a good cry in private after spending your day putting a brave face on.
Our sons Diarmuid and Oisin and our families benefitted greatly from RonaldMcDonald House and we wanted to help give back something for other families with sick children in hospital.
We asked people to come out and ‘Walk a Mile’ to support this cause and we are so thankful to all the people who turned up to walk and donate so generously. As always it is a great social event as well with people meeting up and chatting as they walk around the park.
The walk raised over €4,000 and amount is still climbing and again thank you so much to everyone who donated and supported this event.
