Dunfanaghy will play host to the very first Balor Multisport Race this Saturday, April 12, beginning at 6am.
This new endurance event will take participants through six gruelling stages, showcasing some of Donegal’s most iconic landscapes, including Bloody Foreland, Errigal Mountain, Dunlewey Lake, Knockalla and Fanad, Atlantic Drive and the old Muckish railway.
Competitors will have 22 hours to complete the six stages, which includes 47km of running, 167km of road cycling and 11km of flat-water kayaking. The race is open to solo competitors or teams of 2-3 participants, allowing athletes to either take on the full course individually or split the stages among teammates.
Along the way, participants will be supported by their crews at two designated transition areas located at Ionad Cois Locha, Dunlewey and Wild Atlantic Camp, Creeslough. These transition areas are also ideal viewing spots for spectators, who are warmly encouraged to come out, show their support, and soak in the atmosphere as racers make their way through the course.
The first finishers are expected to arrive back in Dunfanaghy at approximately 4pm, with others crossing the finish line throughout the evening.
