People are invited to come along and support the event, with a chance to win some fantastic prizes

Task Fitness and Donegal Dragons are coming together to host Calories For Cancer - Challenge Day on the Diamond, Donegal Town.

The event takes place  on June 1 from 3pm to 5pm. As well as raising funds for Relay For Life and the North West Hospice, there is a fun, competitive element to this event. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in a competition to see if they can burn the most calories in 60 seconds on their choice of fitness machines - an assault bike, rowing machine, ski erg and dragon boat erg.

The top male and top female on each machine wins one month free membership at Task Fitness and a year’s membership of Donegal Dragons.

Entry to the competition is €5, with all donations welcome. Anyone who makes a donation will be entered into a raffle to win a signed Everton jersey or a signed Donegal jersey.

All support will be greatly appreciated.

Kevin Clarke of Task Fitness said: “At Task Fitness, we believe fitness has the power to do more than just transform bodies — it can uplift communities. That’s why we're stepping out of the gym and onto The Diamond in Donegal Town, teaming up with Donegal Dragons for a special fundraising event.

“Together, we’re raising vital funds for two remarkable causes that touch countless lives across the northwest: North West Hospice and Relay for Life Donegal.

North West Hospice

For those living with life-limiting illnesses, the North West Hospice provides more than just medical care — it offers dignity, comfort, and support when it’s needed most. Serving Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, and beyond, this team delivers specialist palliative care in homes, hospitals, and their dedicated hospice unit.

But they can’t do it alone.

Each year, they rely heavily on community donations to bridge the funding gap and ensure every patient receives the care they deserve, regardless of circumstance.

Relay for Life Donegal

Relay for Life isn’t just an event - it’s a movement of hope. This 24-hour relay brings people together to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones, and support ongoing research through the Irish Cancer Society.

Funds raised help provide free cancer support services, fund life-saving research, and advocate for better cancer care. In Donegal, the Relay has become a powerful symbol of unity and resilience.

“This event is your chance to give back - to sweat for something bigger than yourself,” said Kevin.

“ Whether you compete, donate, or simply cheer others on, your support helps fund real services for real people right here in our community.

Let’s lift each other up, one calorie, one challenge, one cause at a time.”

People are also welcome to come along and simply have a go on the dragon boat erg and to get more information on this fast growing support which has many benefits for people of all ages and fitness levels, and is particularly beneficial for those who have undergone breast cancer surgery.

Anyone who cannot attend but would like to support the fundraiser can go to gofundme.com and search Calories For Cancer.
