Letterkenny University Hospital is urging members of the public to consider other treatment options

Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) is currently experiencing outbreaks of Influenza and COVID-19 while the facility is at max capacity.

A statement released by the HSE said: “The hospital is also managing Flu and Covid outbreaks, which is impacting further on patient placement within the wards.

“All available beds in the hospital are in use. Patients are facing long waiting times to be admitted from the Emergency Department to a bed on a ward.”

The hospital also shared that it is at maximum capacity in escalation and surge areas.

The hospital also states that the Emergency Department (ED) is extremely busy due to a high volume of patients who need to be admitted to the hospital for ongoing treatment.

Approximately 177 people attended the ED, and 47 of those required admission to the hospital.

There are currently 18 patients on trolleys in the Emergency Department awaiting admission, and all escalation and surge areas are at capacity.

The statement said that priority will be given to those who are seriously ill or injured. Patients who do not require urgent care unfortunately may experience longer waiting times, and the public is asked to consider other treatment options.
