New report details economic boost to Donegal
Major supermarket chain Lidl procured over €40 million worth of goods and services from 25 suppliers and business partners across Donegal in 2024, according to a new report.
The findings were unveiled in the ‘’Economic Contribution of Lidl in the Republic of Ireland’ report, which coincided with 25 years of Lidl operating in Ireland.
Lidl Ireland first opened its doors in 2000, launching stores in Letterkenny, amongst other towns in Ireland. The report revealed the extent of Lidl Ireland’s growth since 2000.
The report reveals that in 2024, Lidl Ireland contributed €997 million to Irish GDP, with a combined €109 million economic boost across Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, and Sligo. Donegal has received significant investment with the €40 million procurement of goods and services within the county in 2024. More than 180 people were employed by Lidl in Donegal directly through its network of nine stores in the county.
CEO of Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, Robert Ryan, said: “As we mark 25 years of Lidl Ireland, we’re proud of all we have achieved in becoming a trusted household name in every community in Ireland.”
Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe, commented: “We are proud to have Lidl as part of Ireland’s business landscape, and I look forward to their continued success in the years to come.”
