Illegal drugs worth an estimated €40,000 were seized in Dunfanaghy on Sunday.

A man in his 50s who was arrested in connection with the seizure has since been released without charge, pending further investigation.

Detectives from the Divisional Drugs Unit carried out a search of a residential property in the Dunfanaghy area.

During the raid, which was carried out as part of Operation Tara, quantities of suspected cannabis plants and herb, cocaine, MDMA and tablets, including benzodiazepines, were located.

A man, aged in his 50s, was arrested at the scene.

The man was detained at a Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

He was subsequently released without charge pending further investigations.

The drugs will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

This seizure forms part of Operation Tara an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021.
