Nine people arrested on suspicion of drink driving

Gardaí issue appeal following Bank Holiday weekend

Nine drivers were arrested on suspicion of drink driving and 3 drivers were arrested on suspicion of drug driving between last Friday and Monday, in the county . A number of fixed charge penalty notices were also issued for other road traffic related offences such as speeding.

A number of fatal road traffic collisions occurred across the country over the course of the last Bank Holiday weekend and many families are left devastated as a result.

Gardaí are urging all road users to pay attention to road safety advice regardless of whether it is a Bank Holiday weekend or not.

Gardaí say motorists should always slow down and ensure they are travelling within the legal speed limit, wearing their seatbelt and ensuring passengers are wearing seat belts also. Road users are reminded to never use or hold a mobile phone while driving.

Gardaí say nobody should ever make the poor decision to get behind the wheel of any vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and or drugs. Tired drivers are asked to please pull over and rest a while or stop off for a coffee and stretch their legs before returning to the road. Gardaí remind road users that it is crucial you remain alert while driving and that you are always in a position to react quickly should or when the unexpected occurrs.
