'No interest': Martin Regan firmly rules himself out of Donegal running

Asked by TG4 prior to Sunday's Donegal SFC quarter-final against Glenswilly, Naomh Conaill manager Martin Regan said he had 'no interest' in moving into inter-county management
Martin Regan has ruled himself out of the running to become the new Donegal manager.
By some distance the longest-serving club manager in Donegal, Regan has guided his native Naomh Conaill to three Donegal SFC titles.
Now in his eighth campaign at the helm, Regan - who won the 2015, 2019 and 2020 SFCs - is back in the semi-finals following Sunday’s 2-10 to 0-10 win over Glenswilly.
Before the game, Regan was asked on TG4 about the possibility of throwing his hat into the ring to succeed Declan Bonner as Donegal senior manager.
“Naw, naw, naw,” came Regan’s firm response.
“I have enough commitment with the club.
“That’s where my commitment is completely, with the club,
“I wouldn’t have any interest in a county job.”
The picture remains no clearer now than at any stage in the eight weeks since Bonner formally announced his intention to step down after five years in the role.
The name of Martin McHugh, a regular link when the role has been vacant, has been mooted.
So, too, have 2012 All-Ireland winning players Rory Kavanagh and Karl Lacey. Sean Paul Barrett, a former Donegal minor and under-21 manager, is known to have been a nominee.
Former Monaghan and Fermanagh boss Malachy O’Rourke has distanced himself from the role and Jim McGuinness, Donegal’s All-Ireland winning manager from 2012, is also understood to have no desire to return.
