Council due to give an update on the search for additional land

The lack of graveyard space in Letterkenny is causing ongoing concern among members of the public in the town, a council meeting has been told.

The issue has been raised in recent years with the graveyards at Leck and Conwall close to capacity. Donegal County Council has been asked in recent years by councillors to identify additional graveyard space.

The council has now been called on to give an update on the search for more graveyard space in the town.

Independent councillor Kevin Bradley proposed a motion at the March meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District calling for an update on the issue as “the graveyards are getting full to capacity and people are very concerned”. He said people in the town are asking about the situation.

Sinn Féin councillor Gerry McMonagle seconded the motion saying a focus needs to be kept on the issue.

The council said the issue is due to be considered at the climate action and environment committee after which an update will be provided to the council.
