Planning permission has been sought for the development of a padel court facility outside of Letterkenny.

The news that a padel facility is being sought in Dromore, Letterkenny, comes one week after the Finn Valley Centre announced it would become the first location in Donegal to house a facility to play padel, a sport which has seen its popularity soar worldwide.

Padel is a racket sport played in an enclosed court, with the same scoring system as tennis, but with different rules, strokes, and equipment. The sport originated in Mexico, but has long been popular in countries like Spain and Brazil.

Myr Developments Ltd submitted their planning application to Donegal County Council, which will see the change of use of one building unit, from a warehouse to a padel court facility with associated ancillary works.

A previous application, which was granted by Donegal County Council in May 2025, will be altered if this new application is successful. The previous application was for the erection of three separate warehouse units.

Donegal County Council has yet to announce a decision due date for the application.
