Planning sought for eight new Buncrana apartments

Planning permission has been sought to scrap the proposed construction of four Buncrana retail units in favour of extra apartments and an additional storey for a new four-storey building.
Planning permission has been sought to scrap the proposed construction of four Buncrana retail units in favour of extra apartments and an additional storey for a new four-storey building.
Brendan McConnell was previously granted permission to erect a three-storey building on McCarter’s Road across from the former Buncrana Medical Centre in 2023. The building was to consist of four retail units and an office on the ground floor. While the first and second floors were both to contain four apartments.
The applicant, Mr McConnell, is now seeking permission for a change of use of the four retail units on the ground floor to be constructed into four apartments instead. He is also seeking an additional storey to construct a further four apartments with connection to the main sewer and all ancillary services.
A further alteration to the previous application is the construction of a basement for storage and utilities. Currently, there is a cabin that occupies the site, and this will be removed if planning permission is granted and replaced with the 16 apartments.
