“After losing Daddy in 2024, myself and Kayleigh were determined to keep running the business and make him proud”

There’s widespread sadness across Moville and Inishowen this week after it was confirmed that Inish Adventures will not reopen for the summer season.

The popular water fun park on Lough Foyle, which featured a large inflatable obstacle course and kayak hire for locals and tourists alike, announced the news in an emotional statement shared online by Adrian Harkin’s daughters, Jessica and Kayleigh.

Inish Adventures was founded in Moville in 2009 by Adrian Harkin, whose vision and passion helped turn the business into one of the best-known outdoor attractions in the North-West.

Originally established as ‘Just Kayak’, the venture expanded over the years into a thriving aquatic adventure centre welcoming visitors from across Ireland and beyond.placeholder image

Following Adrian’s death in the summer of 2024, his daughters proudly continued operating the family business in a bid to carry on their father’s legacy. However, they have now made the difficult decision to step away from the business.

“It is with a very heavy heart that I write this, but we will not be opening this summer,” Jessica said in a statement.

“After losing Daddy in 2024, myself and Kayleigh were determined to keep running the business and make him proud. But unfortunately, it is time for us to do what is right for us, and with the damages done at the end of summer last year and the increase in costs, it isn’t possible for us to reopen.”

“We hope the two summers we did without daddy made him proud and that his name and legacy will live on forever.”

The Harkin sisters also thanked the many customers and supporters who stood by the business over the years.

“Thank you to every single person who has supported us from when Daddy first opened Just Kayak, which grew into Inish Adventures,” they said.

Kayaking enthusiast Adrian Harkin was a native of Derry who lived in Moville for more than two decades. His passing in June 2024 prompted an outpouring of grief throughout Donegal and beyond. Diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2022, he became widely admired for his determination and positivity in the face of terminal illness.

Rather than allowing the condition to define him, Adrian embarked on organising an ambitious ‘Summit 2 Sea’ charity challenge. The initiative saw teams climb the highest peaks in every county across Ireland while a relay of rowers travelled around the coastline. Adrian himself completed the final leg of the row in April 2024, just weeks before his death.

The challenge ultimately raised more than €100,000 for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and further cemented Adrian’s reputation as an inspirational figure within the community.
