Public meeting in Ramelton to oppose proposed new speed limit

The R245 between Elm Court and Scoil Mhuire has no continuous footpath linking residents and schoolchildren safely to the school or to Ramelton town and has no traffic-calming measures
Local residents are inviting members of the Ramelton community to gather for a public meeting on a disputed proposed new speed limit.
The meeting will take place at Elm Court on the R245 at 7pm tomorrow evening, Monday, 20 July, to demonstrate their opposition to Donegal County Council's proposal to increase the speed limit from 50 km/h to 60 km/h on the stretch of road between Elm Court and Scoil Mhuire.
The gathering aims to highlight concerns over what residents describe as the contradiction of increasing the speed limit on a route that has already been recognised as unsafe through the Safe Routes to School initiative.

The R245 between Elm Court and Scoil Mhuire has no continuous footpath linking residents and schoolchildren safely to the school or to Ramelton town and has no traffic-calming measures.
These concerns have been raised repeatedly by residents of Elm Court, Lennon Grove and the surrounding area, yet the proposal is to increase the speed limit on a road where the existing limit is already widely ignored and inadequately enforced.
Residents are calling on Donegal County Council to prioritise delivering the promised footpath, introducing appropriate traffic calming measures and improving enforcement of the existing 50 km/h speed limit rather than increasing it.
The meeting is open to all local residents, parents, grandparents, road users and anyone concerned about road safety in Ramelton. Organisers are encouraging as many people as possible to attend to show their support for retaining the existing 50 km/h speed limit and for improving safety on this important route.
