Foyle Coaches has announced that the Greencastle to Letterkenny (953) and the Greencastle to Derry (957) Local Link buses will not be servicing Shroove today.

Not for the first time this week, the local bus service in Shroove has been cancelled “in the interest of safety.”

The announcement by Foyle Coaches comes following the diversion of the bus service on Wednesday and yesterday (Saturday) due to the narrow road at Shroove beach being blocked by illegally parked vehicles.

With another scorching day ahead with temperatures expected to reach 22 degrees, visitors are expected to pack into Shroove beach once again, blocking access for the Local Link services.

In anticipation of the road being blocked by abandoned vehicles once again, Foyle Coaches has announced that the  Greencastle to Letterkenny (953) and the Greencastle to Derry (957) Local Link buses will not be servicing Shroove today.

“In the interest of safety, all Local Link 953 & 957 services will not serve Shrove today, Sunday 17th August,” the company posted on its social media pages.

Donegal County Council appealed to visitors on Friday not to illegally park so that the road would remain clear for public transport and emergency service vehicles.

However, despite the council requesting that An Garda Síochána help keep the access road clear, access to the beach had again become completely blocked yesterday with cars parking on both sides of the road – leading to the temporary cancellation of the local bus service once again.

Meanwhile, due to the Greencastle Regatta taking place, Foyle Coaches has also announced that “All Local Link 957 & 953 services will depart and terminate at Fisheries College in Greencastle today, Sunday 17th August.”
