Siún Ibbs, a Sixth-Year student from St Columba’s Comprehensive School in Glenties, has qualified for the National Final of the All-Ireland Linguistics Olympiad (AILO) 2025 for the third consecutive year.

Siún had a top 50 finish in the first round of the competition and will be participating in the final at DCU on Wednesday, March 12.

She will fly the flag for the north-west, as County Donegal’s sole representative, among 100 qualifiers from almost 50 schools nationwide. Run by the ADAPT Centre and supported by Science Foundation Ireland, the AILO contest challenges students to engage in ‘code-breaking’ by applying logic, patience, and reasoning skills to solve complex puzzles in unfamiliar languages. It is a key element of the nationwide Problem-Solving Initiative.
