A critically ill St Johnston toddler has been transferred to hospital in England.

Brave little Daibhin Curran, who is fighting for his life, was moved by air ambulance from Crumlin Hospital to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

The 21-month-old has been receiving around-the-clock care over the last couple of weeks. He has now had to be moved for an even higher level of care in England.

A son of Barry and Megan Curran from St Johnston, Daibhin was diagnosed with myocarditis and cardiomyopathy. Daibhin is also battling with rhinovirus and parvovirus infections.

As his heart and lungs are not able to function on their own right now, Daibhin was being supported by an ecmo machine, a form of life support used in critical situations. This was the highest level of life support care he can receive in Ireland.

At the weekend, his beloved parents Barry and Megan flew out to England to be at their son’s bedside.

Over €60,000 has been raised in a fundraiser as community and friends have rallied around in support. Following Daibhin’s transfer, the family will have further bills for medical care and accommodation and you can assist by donating here.

“He is still very ill,” his aunt, Lisa Crawford, said last week. “There is a strong possibility that he may be transferred to Freeman Hospital Newcastle for a higher level of care when the time is right.

“In the meantime please keep Daibhin and all his family in your prayers, We are forever grateful…Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness support and prayers.”
