The Taoiseach was in Glenties to speak at the MacGill Summer School

Taoiseach Simon Harris was in high demand during his visit to Glenties where he was a speaker at the MacGill Summer School.

But despite this, he still found time to chat to some locals, including the staff at Inniskeel Cope Shop on the town's Main Street.

Patsy McDyre was delighted to welcome the Taoiseach behind the counter of the shop, which has everything from daily groceries, delicious homemade jam, newspapers, magazines, confectionary and off-licence goods, to household wares and hardware supplies.

And this was not the first time she had welcomed a Taoiseach to the store. A photograph of Pasty along with Simon Harris's predecessor Leo Varakdar takes pride of place on the wall behind the counter.placeholder image

"I am delighted that Taoiseach Simon Harris called in to see us," she told Donegal Live. "I will add the photo to the wall above the one of Leo Vardadkar."

While the Taoiseach addressed a number of the serious issues of the day in his speech - including the challenges being faced by small businesses - there was a broadly convivial atmosphere surrounding his visit to the town.

Unlike appearances by previous Taoisigh and high profile ministers, there were no protests, and many children and families were among those to meet the Taoiseach on the street during his visit.
